(Ref: CARLSBAD CURRENT-ARGUS, Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, dated for Sunday, November 12, 1961, front page, reads as follows: JIM WILLIAMS DIES; LIVED HERE 23 YEARS Funeral services will be held Monday at 4 p.m. in the Carpenter Funeral Home chapel for Jim L.D. Williams, 88, retired grocer who died Friday. O.H. Tabor of the Fox and Lake Street Church of Christ will conduct the service. Burial will be in Carlsbad Cemetery. A resident of Dark Canyon Road, Williams had lived in Carlsbad for 23 years, coming here from Ft. Sumner. Before moving here he had been a minister in the Church of Christ. In 1939 he married Mrs. Freddie Nelson and in the same year established a small grocery store at the corner of Eighth and Texas streets which he operated until retiring in 1946, He was born November 11, 1873. Pallbearers will be John Carpenter, Gene Wilson, Grant Culver, James Barber, Glen Barber, Jimmy Bartlett, all great-grandsons. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Freddie Williams, four step-sons, J.N., Bill and Clark Nelson, all of Carlsbad; and Claude E. Nelson of California, two daughters, Mrs. Violet Simon of Harlingen, Tex., and Mrs. Lily Mae Pauley of Los Angeles, Calif.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Ruby Barber of Eunice, Mrs. Mary Wilson, Mrs. Hester Holmes and Mrs. Elsie Carpenter, all of Carlsbad; one brother, Tom Williams of Poto, Calif., 32 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.
