Floyd Habe Tonniges was born January 1, 1921 near Gresham, NE to Richard and Lena (Dey) Tonniges. He graduated from Shelby High School. He was married to Elaine Coufal on June 14, 1943 at Temple, TX. He was a World War II veteran, member of the Davidson Neujahr Unit 13 of the American Legion, a member of the Gresham Village Board and St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gresham. Floyd owned and operated a produce, feed and appliance concern in Gresham, was manager of the Gresham Co-op and also connected with the Y-Grain at York. He became cashier at Gresham State Bank as he was a familiar face of the community who helped re-establish the credibility of the bank after a state review. Survivors include his wife Elaine of Gresham, two sons: Terry (Sherry) Tonniges of Gresham, Dr. Tom (Jane) Tonniges of Harrington, IL; a daughter: Susan Pieper of York; two brothers: Merold Tonniges of Seward and Kenneth Tonniges of Gresham; 8 grandchildren.
