Services for Gerald O. Akins, 74, of Kilgore, formerly of Etoile, were held Saturday, July 5, 1997 in the Chapel of the Last Supper with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. Akins was born March 17, 1923 in Redfield, Harris County, Texas and died Monday, June 30, 1997 in a Lufkin hospital. He was a retired self-employed electrician. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was of the Baptist faith. He had been a resident of Kilgore since Decemer 1996. Survivors: daughter, Kathy Swezy of Everett, Wash.; son, Stephen Akins of Everett, Wash.; brother, Lewis Akins of Midway; sister, Sybil Smith of Kilgore; and three grandchildren.
