Published in the Athens Review September 8, 1949 Thomas Jefferson Pierce, 89, resident of Walnut Creek community for 60 years, passed away Monday at about 5 p.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Leopard, at Walnut Creek after a brief illness. Graveside services were to be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Smith Cemetery. Rev. L.D. Rose was to officiate. Born on August 7, 1860, Mr. Pierce came to Texas from Tennessee as a boy. He had lived for the past 60 years in the Walnut Creek community, was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are five sons, Henry of the Walnut Creek community, Jim of Dallas, E.L. of Lamesa, John of Dallas and J.W. of Kermit; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Leopard of Walnut Creek community; and 36 grandchildren.
