Mr. Leon Joseph Bohuslav Columbia Longtime Columbia businessman, resident, and friend, Mr. Leon Joseph Bohuslav died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the age of 86. Service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5th, at 10:00 am. Visitation will be at Colonial Funeral Home from 9:00 until service time. Mr. Bohuslav was born December 18, 1924 in Hallettsville, Texas, to Adolph and Matilda Bohuslav. After graduating High School, he took a job with Amerado Petroleum Company and was transferred to Columbia, Mississippi where he met and married Patty Jane Smith on May 24, 1946. Mrs. Bohuslav passed away last May. The couple enjoyed sixty-four years of marriage. Mr. Bohuslav held membership at the First United Methodist Church. He was a member and past President of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce and a charter member and Director of Main Street Columbia. The Marion Country Railroad Authority and Rotary Club were among the various organizations of Mr. Bohuslav's civic involvement. Mr. Bohuslav was the 2008 recipient of the Maurice Dantin Leadership Award. He and his wife Patty owned and operated Hill Hardware, Inc., a Main Street landmark, since 1974. Mr. Bohuslav made promoting Columbia and Marion County a lifelong priority. He enjoyed his business and service to the city of Columbia. When not at the store, he enjoyed gardening. Mr. Bohuslav was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Jane Bohuslav; his parents, Adolph and Matilda Bohuslav; two brothers, George Bohuslav and Butch Bohuslav; and one sister, Ida Lee Bohuslav. Survivors include two brothers, Alex Bohuslav of Dallas, Texas and Daniel Bohuslav of Katy, Texas; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Burdette of Columbia, Mississippi; three nieces: Jan Bell (James) of Carriere, Mississippi; Debbie Gray of Columbia, Mississippi; and Susan Burdette of Columbia, Mississippi; and one great niece and two great nephews.
