Abraham Samuels Byrd was born 19 Feb 1872 in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas to parents: John Erasmus Byrd & Julia Caroline King. He married Mary Jane Tucker (aka Mollie & Mamie) on 04 October 1900 in Rhonesboro, Upshur County, Texas. Mary Jane Tucker (1883-1967) was born on 10 Nov 1883 in Grice, Wood County, Texas to Eli Jackson Tucker & Sarah Lucinda Grice. Mary (widow) died in Gladewater, Gregg County, Texas on 17 Jan 1967 and and was removed for burial to Little Mound Cemetery where her husband was buried in 1935. Abraham Samuels Byrd was a potter by trade. His son Johnnie Jackson Byrd and wife and thier two children were also in the potter trade (lised in 1940 census as potter in the wholesale potter industry). They had at least 12 known children between 1901 & 1927: 1) John Jackson Byrd (1901-1995); 2) Marcus Jewel Byrd (1904-1990); 3) William Aron Byrd (1906-1988); 4) Harvey Lee Byrd (1908-1956); 5) Dalton Leon Byrd (1911-1995); 6) Abraham Lincoln Byrd (1913-1994); 7) Baby boy Byrd (1915-1915 born/died same day); 8) Noble Williford Byrd (1917-2005); 9) Raymond Melvin Byrd (1919-1989); 10) Julie Zorene Byrd (1922-1962); 11) Dorotha Mozelle Byrd (1924-?); 12) Cleo Langford Byrd (1927-1992). Note: All twelve children were born in the Honey Creek area, Wood County, Texas. He served in the Spanish American War in Cuba. He enrolled on 01 May 1898 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas as a Private for 2 years of service and mustered on 12 May 1898 in Austin, Travis County, Texas and was discharged in Galveston, Texas. He applied for a pension on 11 January 1907.
