Bio

GANADO — Services for Larry Arthur "Pops" Waits, 58, of Ganado, formerly of Rogers, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church in Ganado. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery in El Campo. Mr. Waits died Monday, Feb. 28, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1952, to Charles Woodson and Hazel Douglas Clowers Waits in the Joe Lee Community. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1970 and Sam Houston State University in 1974. He moved to Ganado and on Sept. 28, 1974, he married Judy Beth Skalicky. He was a partner of S&W Farms. He was currently serving on the church council, Farm Bureau Board, LNRA Water Planning Board and Lions Club. He formerly served as Rice Marketing Association director, president of the Ground Water District, Ganado mayor, Jackson County Go Texas Committee member and assistant scout master. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew Arthur Waits of Austin and Mark Douglas Waits of Houston; a daughter, Cori Beth Waits Radley of El Campo; three brothers, Carl Waits of Dripping Springs, Charlie Waits of Rogers and Clayton Waits of Dime Box; his step-mother, Lora Waits of Rogers; and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church of Ganado or to a charity of your choice. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Ganado Funeral Home. TEMPLE DAILY TELEGRAM.
