Bio

John enlisted as a private in Co. C 25th Iowa Infantry in August 1862. He was promoted to corporal in July 1864 and mustered out in June 1865. His regiment saw a lot of combat including Vicksburg, Chattanooga, and Atlanta. They marched in the grand review in Washington on 24 May 1865. He moved to Oregon in 1908. =========================== Grand Island (Nebraska) Herald; Thursday, 27 January 1927, page 1 Pioneer of Hamilton Dies at 90 Years Phillips (Nebraska), Jan. 26 - J. J. Grim, 90, one of the early settlers of Hamilton county, is dead at Central Point, Ore., to which place the family moved 19 years ago. Less L. Grim, of the place, the only son, went to Oregon to attend the funeral.
