Obituary for Elder Nelson Hurd Rev Nelson Hurd Was born in Middleberry, Vermont, Sept 5, 1816, and died of lagrippe, at the residence of his son in Polk County, Nebraska, March 23, 1896 aged 79 years, 6 months and 18 days. When one year old, his parents removed with him to the wilderness of Ohio and settled near the Broad Ford in Thompson township, Delaware County and his boyhood was passed like hundreds of others of the pioneer settlers, in hard work and small reward for labor. From boyhood he has always been a faithful member of the Christian Church, and when about thirty years of age he began preaching. The greater part of his life was spent in Thompson Township but for some years was a resident of Richwood and in 1838 he moved to Nebraska to live with his son, where he resided at the time of his death. While they will miss him, they realize that their loss is his gain. The services were conducted by Rev. Lloyd, minister of the United Brethren Church.
