Services for Lois Christine Seago, 84, of Lufkin, were held Saturday, March 29, 2003 in Lufkin's First Baptist Church with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Seago was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Upshur County to Terrell Anderson Loyless and Sarah Delia Tucker Loyless and died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at her residence. She attended several country schools and graduated from Gilmer High School in 1933. She graduated from what is now Texas Women's University in 1937 with a bachelors of arts in English, a second major in history and minor degrees in science and French. At the age of 19, she was teaching full time at Gilmer High School. She worked for the Lufkin ISD beginning in 1958. She retired from Lufkin ISD in 1983, but continued to work as an educational consultant for the district as well as Stephen F. Austin State University, TEA and NEA. She supervised student teachers for SFA in school districts in East Texas and performed faculty evaluations for Lufkin ISD and other school districts. Among the many honors and memberships Mrs. Seago enjoyed included Freedon Foundation Medal for Excellence in Classroom Teaching; first director of the North Texas Red River Girls Scout Council, Paris, TX, 1952-54; president of City Council PITA, Nacogdoches, 1955-57; saw two elementary schools built under her leadership; president, Distric VII, TSTA, 1969-70; member, TSTA Executive Board, 1970-74. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lufkin for more than 40 years where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Ruth Hunt of Spring Hill; and beloved husband Bill in 1991. Survivors: Sons and daughters-in-law, -John Michael and Mary Helen Seago, -Robert (Bob) and Annette Seago Daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Seago and Peter Grossman Grandchildren, Kelly Whatley, Karen Hall, Kate Ashley and Scott Seago, Rebecca Christina and Evan Grossman Great-grandchildren, Payne and Jackson Whatley, Rheagan Christine Hall Brother, Edward Loyless and wife Ellen Numerous cousins. nieces and nephews.
