Rulon Jay Smith, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in American Fork, Utah. He will be greatly missed. He was born to Ralphus Moroni Smith and Thelma (Nicholes) Smith on January 28, 1927, in Alpine, Utah. He grew up a spunky young boy in the Alpine hills with his brother Leon and his sister, Sherma, by whom he is survived. Rulon graduated from American Fork High School in 1945, and soon thereafter enlisted in the Armed Forces. He was preparing for deployment overseas when WWII ended. After an honorable discharge from the military, he was employed by U.S. (Geneva) Steel where he worked as a welder. He retired from this company in 1986, a valued employee. He met and married his sweetheart and companion of over 60 years, Donna Marie Pace, in 1949. Together they raised three children and had many happy years as a family. Rulon enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, golfing, and bowling. He was a regular at Jack and Jill Lanes in American Fork, where he spent several fun-filled hours bowling for various leagues. He was later inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. SURVIVED BY: wife Donna and their children, Maurice (Barbara), Christine (Gary West), and Kerry (Jennifer). He has 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all who knew and loved him. His family will be blessed with two more great-grandchildren later this year, who will no doubt hear wonderful and funny stories about their great-grandpa as they grow up. A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the LDS Chapel on 300 N 700 E in American Fork, Utah, after viewing from 12:30 to 1:45 pm the service will begin at 2 pm. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be given to a charity of your choice.
