17 Mar 1951 Ennis and his wife Ermice were killed in a car accident in West, McLennan Co, Texas. A drunk driver pulled on to the highway from the Night Owl Tavern, and struck their South bound vehicle. Ermice was killed instantly and Ennis died a short time later at Hospital in Hillsboro TX. They were buried in a double Funeral Service. 19 Mar 1951 Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. for Mr. and Mrs. Ennis L. Blackburn at the Hewett Funeral Home, Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Bob Blackburn, Jr. of Fort Worth and Rev. Ernest Duncan of Troy officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn, presumably on their way from their home in Dallas to Troy and Temple to visit their parents, were killed Saturday afternoon in an automobile accident near West. Four other persons were injured, none seriously. Mrs. Blackburn was formerly Miss Vera Ermice Fincher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Fincher of Temple. She was a member of the Little River Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackburn was born March 4, 1919 and was married to Ennis L. Blackburn in Troy July 26, 1942. Mr. Blackburn was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Blackburn of Troy, where he was born Oct. 2, 1918. He was a member of the Troy Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Survivors of Mrs. Blackbun include her parents; three brothers, Hildred of Dallas, Euel and Floyd of Temple; three nepheews, Kenneth Fincher of Dallas, John Wayne and David Euel Fincher, both of Temple. Mr. Blackburn's survivors include his parents; two brothers, Johnny of Temple and Tommy of Troy; one sister, Mrs. Bill Hillyard of Caldwell; two nieces, Barbara and Caroline Hillyard. Active pallbearers for Mr. Blackburn will be Franklin Hinze, Roy Laurence, Red Lancaster, Walter Jackson, Claude Cooper and Ira Lee Hargrove. Active pallbearers for Mrs. Blackburn will be R. B. Bridges, Cleo Hudson, Harvery Segler, Charles Work, Walter Caldwell, and Buddie Elliott.
