Benjamin N. Rutledge,77, of Petrolia passed away around 2 am Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Houston in the home of a daughter, Mrs Elnora Farris. Mr. Rutledge had undergone surgery athe the MD Anderson Hospital Houston and was staying with the daughter prior to returning to Petrolia. services were held at 2 pm saturday at the First United Methodist Church at Petrolia with Rev. Johnnie W. Haney, Pastor, officating. Burial was in hte Petrolia Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brunley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Pallbearers were Charles Rutledge, Billy Rutledg, John Holder, Murray Armour, Vernon Armour and Gary Adams, all nephews. Mr. Rutledge was born on Nov. 28, 1893, at Gilmer, Texas, and came to Petrolia sixty years ago. He married Miss Amy Armour on April 21, 1917 at Henrietta. He was a member of the first Methodist Church at Petrolia and the wichita Falls IOOF Lodge. A retired oil driller, Mr. Rutledge had served on the Petrolia City Council, and had been employed by Clay County Precinct No. 2. He also operated a cafe and service station for several years at Petrolia. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Amy Rutledge of the home in Petrolia; one son, Bobby Rutledge of Houston, one daughter, Elnora Farris of Houston; three brothers, james Rutledge of Petrolia, Elonzo Rutledge of Lubbock and Herman Rutledge of Salem Ark.; one sister, Mrs Ada Holder of Fort Worth; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and infant daughter, Vivian Rutledge, passed away in 1918. obit thanks to findagrave contributor: Connie Iris #47551913 Name: Benjamin Nathan Rutledge Death date: 01 Sep 1971 Death place: Houston, Harris, Texas Gender: Male Race or color (on document): Age at death: 77 years Estimated birth year: 1894 Father's name: Charles N.
