Son of John Britnell Children: George M, M. J. (Louisa), John Melvin, Larkin, Sarah Francis, Clarise Ann and B. F. (Roy). S. Britnell (Thought to be William Silmon Britnell) enlisted as a Private in Company E of the 4th Alabama Cavalry Regiment on 4 Sep 1862. He was elected as the 2nd Lt. of his company and was appointed to that rank. He served with his company until 1 Apr 1863, when he resigned and was replaced by S. L. Corsbie. No further records were located for S. Britnell in the 4th. William Silmon Britnell enlisted in Compny K of the 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment on 29 Oct 1862 and was mustered out on 20 Oct 1865. It should be obvious that S. Britnell and William Silmon Britnell are not the same soldier.
