Arthur Lee Dunaway (1935-2011) Arthur Lee Dunaway, 75, of Carthage, Mo. passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at his home after a lengthy illness. Arthur Lee Dunaway was born Dec. 31, 1935 in Denison, the son of Aaron Ira Dunaway and Annie Mae (Rushing) Dunaway. He was a graduate of Denison High School and attended Rutherford Metropolitan School of Business in Dallas. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during peacetime with the Btry 1st HOW Bn 10 Artillery. After his release from the Army, he met and married Maureen Knight of Meaford, Ontario, Canada on August 21, 1965. Art served as plant manager for Snap Shots, Inc. in Dallas, Abilene, and Oklahoma City, Okla. for 12 years then worked for Snap Back Photos for 4 years in Wichita, Kan. He and his wife then purchased Steward's Photography from the Neal Steward family in 1976, naming it Steward's Studio and Frame Shop. Their business was awarded the "Small Business of the Year" in 2007 by the Carthage Chamber of Commerce. Art loved to fly and owned his own plane for several years at Myers Air Field, Carthage. He was a past president of the Carthage Airport Board, served on the Carthage City Council (1998-2002), served as the council liaison for the McCune-Brooks Hospital Board and was a member of the Carthage Deli Koffee Klub. He was an active member of the Carthage Church of Christ. He will be remembered as a special character who knew everyone and everyone knew him and who always appreciated a good joke. His earthly journey has ended and his heavenly journey has only just begun. Survivors include his wife, Maureen, of the home; two daughters, Kara (Brett) Biggs of Colleyville, and Melinda (Steve) Wilson of Carthage; two sons, Tc (Diane) Henderson of Grand Prairie, and Darren (Kayte) Dunaway of Webb City, Mo.; three sisters, Leonia (Ted) Pyles of Parsons, Kan., Josephine Ford of Denison and Janet (John) Anthony of Denison. He was a loving papa to Hadley and Ainsley Biggs, Ashleigh and Gabriel Wilson, Alexander and Jaxon Dunaway, Kristie and Terry Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Leon and Aaron Dunaway. The body has been sent for cremation. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 at Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Church of Christ, located at 3122 S. Grand Ave. in Carthage, Mo., with Jim Murray officiating. Private family committal services will be held in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
