Leo Gappa Rites Held At Ashton Leo Gappa, 73, of rural Ash­ton, died Monday afternoon at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Loup City. Funeral services were conducted Thursday,February 5, 1961, at 10:30 am at the Mt Carmel Catholic Church at Paplin with Father Milan Kopushar celebrating the mass. Music for the Mass was furnished by the organist, Mrs Gertrude Lukasiewicz. Casketbearers were William Gregoski. Isadore Jonak, Albert Pederson, Dan Stanczyk, Tom Stanczyk and Jerry Tomasiewicz. Burial was in the parish cemetery at Paplin. Visitations were held on Wednesday from 1 until 9pm with a rosary being recited at 8 :00 pm Wednesday at the Loup City Memorial Funeral Home. Mr Gappa was born September 17, 1907. at Ashton in Sherman County ,the son of Bernard and Mary (Blazey) Gappa He received his education and grew to manhood in Sherman County. On October 21 1941 at Loup City, he was united in marriage to Florence Ziola After their marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Ashton Paplin area He was a member of the Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Survivors include his widow,Florence of rural Ashton a son, Howard of Ashton, five daughters Mrs Delbert (Renee) Jonak and Mrs James (Deloris)Stanczyk both of Ashton Mrs Dennis (Sharon) Pederson, Mrs Darrel (Maxine) Lewandowski and Mrs Jerry (Linda) Polski all of Elba, three brothers. Albert, Alfonso and Edwin Gappa all of Ashton and a sister, Mrs Wanda Woitalewicz also of Ashton. -19 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
