John Barta son of John and step-mother Thresa (Svetlik) Barta.John Barta married Antonia Stehlik. _____________________ John Barta,Sr.,Long Time Citizen Here,Dies Many hearts throughout this community were saddened when news was flashed about that Mr.John Barta,Sr.,a respected resident of this section for many years, had died at his home near town at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning.Mr.Barta had been in ill health for a number of years, and for a number of days preceding his death was in serious condition. It was realized his death was only a question of time, but nevertheless when it did come it brought many heartaches to his myriads of friends throughout this section. Funeral arrangements were made and interment took place in the Masonic Cemetery,Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock,Rev.A. Motyska,Lutheran minister from Nelsonville,Texas, officiating. An exceedingly large crowd of mourning relatives and friends from every point of the compass was present to pay the last sad tribute of respect to this truly good man and citizen. John Barta, was born June 20,1860,in Moravia,Czecho-Slovakia.He came to the United States at the age of 11 years,in 1871,first settling in the Content community. He was united in marriage to Miss Antonie Stehlik, and soon afterward moved near Weimar (on the present home place),where the remainder of his life was spent.Mr.Barta in earlier life clerked for a number of years for Owen Heyer, merchant of this city.About Sept.20,1898,he engaged in business for himself. This business he conducted for many years.Jan.1,1923,failing health induced him to turn his business over to his three sons,Messrs.Otto,Emil and Albert Barta. John Barta was one of the best citizens that ever lived in this section.A quiet, straightforward, good man, honest as men ever get to be,strictly attentive to his own business, kindly and charitable to a fault,he had the respect and esteem of all who knew him,the writer knew John Barta for a period of over forty years and in that never heard one word spoken against him,but always as "the honest man,the good man".Not many of us can go to our graves with such a kindly feeling in the hearts of our fellow men.He lived a quiet, peaceable life, thoughtful always of his family and friends,a man against whom the finger of suspicion or accusation was never raised, and in his passing all of us feel that one of our dearest, best friends have gone!May a merciful Father be kind to his bereaved ones,is our sincere wish.
