Bio
Debra Jo (Dahl) Rothenberger was born on August 17, 1951, to Harry and Gudrun (Foss) Dahl of rural Gatzke, Minnesota. As a child, she attended school at Wannaska Elementary and Roseau High School. Debbie and Robert (Larry) Rothenberger were married on June 11, 1968. As a young bride, she and Larry moved from Roseau County. They lived in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and spent a few years in Oregon before settling permanently in the Duluth, Minnesota area. Debbie and Larry have two sons, Anthony (Tony) Rothenberger of rural Duluth, and Scott Rothenberger of rural Roseau, as well as three granddaughters, Cheryl , Jade, and Kirsten. Over the course of their lives, Debbie and Larry owned several furniture stores. For the past 25 years, Debbie was the proud owner and operator of "Roberts" furniture store in Cloquet, Minnesota. Debbie was small in stature, but she had a big heart. Her warm, friendly, and compassionate personality made her very dear to her employees and to her customers. Family was also very important to Debbie. Her life revolved around her husband, her sons, and her granddaughters. As well as being a wonderful grandma, she often played the role of Mom for her granddaughters, too. Debbie truly was the "brick & mortar" of her family. Debbie's times of greatest enjoyment were spent at the family hunting land near Gatzke, Minnesota. This was a time of great fun for the whole family. She was a fabulous cook and the cookouts at "Debbie's cabin" were always looked forward to as a time for Dahl family gatherings. Her laughter was contagious and her welcome mat was always out. She was a smart, strong, determined, and courageous person who will always be dear to our hearts. We miss her so much…. She passed away on January 31, 2011 at her home in Canyon, MN. She was 59 years old. Debra Jo (Dahl) Rothenberger is survived by her husband, Larry, her sons, Tony and Scott, her granddaughters, Cheryl, Jade, and Kirsten, her sisters, Pat (Bill) Westman, Connie (Bruce) Nelson, Betty Dahl Otto, her brothers, Schell, (Shirley) Dahl, Greg Dahl, and also several nieces and nephews. Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gudrun Dahl. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 6 at the Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be at the Randeen Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer society would be appreciated.
