Inscription

He served in the US army in 1814, removed to Tennessee in 1817 and was four times elected to the legislature of that state. In 1843 he removed to Alabama and was elected to the House of Representatives of the legislature of this state in 1845 and 1849 from Marion County. He died December 19, 1849 while that body was in session. Much respected for his integrity and sound judgment, this monument is dedicated to his memory by the state and in whose service he died.
