Bio

Christine Demny went home to Jesus on February 18, 2022 at the age of 87 years old. She had been surrounded by her family for several days as she very peacefully made the transition from earth to her heavenly home. She was born Christine Anna Pisklak on December 24, 1934 to her loving parents, Edward and Emilie Pisklak, in Fairchilds, Fort Bend County, Texas, and was the youngest of 11 children. She attended Fairchilds and Sealy schools, graduating from Round Top High School in 1950. After high school and a couple years more helping her parents on the farm, Christine got a job in Houston working for the Houston Chronicle in advertising. Moving to and living in Houston was a big step for her because she had never experienced the big city life. But it was during this time that something special happened. She met John T. Demny while both were attending a wedding for mutual friends. In time, they were married on April 8, 1956 in All Saints Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, then made Houston their life-long home. Their first child was born in 1957, with 3 more to come in the next 6 years. Christine spent her time raising her family in the Christian manner that she was raised. She would often tell her family stories of her happy life growing up on the farm, such as helping her daddy raise and pick cotton, helping her momma bake kolaches, watching her daddy make homemade wine, listening to momma and daddy read from their family Bible, and all playing music and singing with their accordions. She would also recount stories of having to endure her older brothers going off to war and being so grateful that they returned safely. In the early 1970's, she and John became sole owners of a company, Gulf South Supply Inc., that John had helped to start in the mid 1950's. As the kids got older, Christine would often go into work with John to help with the accounting. Eventually their two sons began working full time at the business, so she loved working there because it gave her even more time to spend with her family. Amazingly, she worked there until the last year of her life. Family was always most important to Christine, getting everyone together as often as she could and having big family meals. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. Christine is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, John T. Demny; her grandson, Baby Charlie Gerland; and her grandson-in-law, Chance Roberts; along with her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her beloved children, John Demny, Jr. and wife, Gina, Michael Demny and wife, Kathleen, Catherine Emily Allen, and Carolyn Jo Gerland and husband, Charles. Christine is further survived by her grandchildren, Meghan (Demny) Dean and husband, Greg, Kaylan (Demny) Knauss and husband, Jack, Emily Demny, Elizabeth (Demny) Roberts, Sarah (Demny) Hochman and husband, Devin, Clayton Kiesling and wife, Lauren, Gabrielle Allen, Hannah Allen, Cullen Allen, Christine (Gerland) Luza, SN United States Navy, and husband, Operation Specialist Third Class Tim Luza Jr., United States Coast Guard, Candace (Gerland) Speer and husband, Steven, Cara (Gerland) Coghlan and husband, Chase, and Courtney Gerland. Christine is also survived by many great-grandchildren, Harrison Michael Dean, Hallie Marie Dean, John "Jax" Knauss, Zenny Raymond Knauss, Demi Joy Knauss, Laiden Charles Roberts, Amelia Elizabeth Demny, Hunter Michael Hochman, Beckett Riley Kiesling, Evelyn Leigh Forrest, Eleanor Carson Forrest, Charlotte Jo Speer, Jake Theodore Speer, Samuel Gerland Speer, Nicole Marie Coghlan, and Luke Chase Coghlan. Also surviving their sister, special love and recognition is given to Christine's beloved sisters, Bertha Hruby, Martha Vacek, Wilma Bienek, and Georgia Koehne. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Knesek and Sons Funeral Home, 122 N. First Street, Wallis, Texas 77485. A rosary will begin at 12:30 PM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5518 Demel Street in Wallis, followed by a funeral mass at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Wallis. Christine's grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers, Clayton Kiesling, Cullen Allen, Greg Dean, Jack Knauss, Devin Hochman, Steven Speer, Chase Coghlan, and honorary pallbearer, Operation Specialist Third Class Tim Luza Jr., United States Coast Guard. After a long life, well-lived, devoted to our Heavenly Father and the teachings of Jesus Christ, Christine's legacy will be her beautiful family and the great Christian morals and values that she did her best to instill in all of them. Job well done, Christine, and now your peaceful transition to your eternal reward is complete. May you enjoy being a saint in Heaven as much as you enjoyed being an earthly saint to everyone that you encountered. In good fashion, as Christine would want it, a meal will follow immediately after burial back at the church hall.
