Johnnie Brannan, 89, died on Tuesday at a VA Hospital in Temple, Texas. A native of Citronelle, Brannan won two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star while serving in the military. Brannan enjoyed "fishing, hunting and taking care of his cows," according to his obituary. He married Adela Hurta in 1948; his wife passed away in January, 2004. Brannan is survived by a sister and a number of nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple with full military honors. Mr. Brannan died Tuesday, Jan. 25, in a Temple hospital. He was born on March 23, 1921, to William J. "Willie" and Agnes Stringer Brannan in Citronelle, Ala. On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Adella Hurta. He retired from the U.S. Army. His decorations include two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a resident of Temple for more 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife.
