Obituaries The Athens Review Elizabeth C. Abbott Services for Elizabeth C. Abbott, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Hill Assembly of God Church in the Walton community with the Rev. Odis Munns officiating. Burial will follow at Chinquapin Cemetery in Van Zandt County under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens. Mrs. Abbott died Jan. 14, 2001, in Athens. She was born April 8, 1916, in McLennon County to the late Lester and Gussie Myrtle Hale Bell. Mrs. Abbott lived in Fort Worth 16 years. She was an assistant librarian at University of Texas in Arlington and taught music at home for 15 years. She moved to Athens in 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Old Bethel Quilting Club and Athens Genealogical Society. She attended Decatur Baptist College and earned her bachelor of arts degree from Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton. She did graduate work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Survivors include her husband, L.M. Abbott of Athens; daughters, Ann McLeod of Oceanside, Calif., and Joyce Marie Vanderbeck of Arlington; brother, Harold Bell of Haltom City; grandchildren, J.J. McLeod and Sunny and Christian Vanderbeck; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Richard Abbott, Bill Abbott, Mike Abbott, David Lowry, Dwain Mixon and Grover Mixon. Family will receive friends form 5-6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
