Bio

Vonly Dugger, 89, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday under the auspices of Southside Lodge #1114, AF & AM. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Vonly Dennis Dugger was born Sept. 7, 1921, in McGregor, son of the late Nina Mabel Farner and Samuel Newton Dugger. He was veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard, and was a Master Mason and a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion. Vonly was an expert deep sea fisherman and a good horseman. When he was young, he was a caddy at the Colonial Golf Tournament and loved to play golf all his life. He was a kind-hearted man with a dry sense of humor and he dearly loved his family and friends. Vonly was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Polly, and his sister, Barbara Dugger. Survivors: Daughters, Nina Martinez and husband, Willie, and Vonda Dugger Ricketts and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Cristie Lewis and husband, Martin, and Leslie Gorman; great-granddaughters, Asia, Atlanta, Aroura and Sarah; and special friend, Joyce Long and her family.
