Patricia A. "Pat" Hughes, 68, of Cotesfield died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord. Pat was born June 25, 1942, at Lander, Wyo., to James and Gladys (Williams) Gray. Pat was preceded in death by sons, Keith and Brendan Hughes. Survivors are: husband, Sterling Hughes of Cotesfield; son, Kevin Hughes of Sparks, Nev.; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Rich Mackey of David City, Leah and Wayne Crome of Greeley and Alisha Hughes of Cotesfield; 11 grandchildren; special sister, Jesslyn Weiner and her husband, Larry of North Loup; god-daughter, Laralee Sukup and a host of relatives and friends. Pat was raised in the North Loup and Greeley areas and attended school at North Loup until the 7th grade. She then went to Greeley Sacred Heart and graduated in 1960 from Marion High School in Omaha. After receiving her education she worked at Mutual of Omaha. On July 8, 1961, Pat was united in marriage to Sterling Hughes at Boy's Town in Omaha. For the first seven years of their married lives they resided in the Omaha and Elkhorn areas. In January of 1969, they settled on the farm south east of Scotia where they have resided for the past 42 years. In 1982, Pat began working at the Greeley Care Home and later for Home Care and Companions. Before her retirement in 2003, she was working as an independent home health care nurse. Pat was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Scotia and was very devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cook and canning. She especially enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren. Pat was also preceded in death by: parents; and daughter-in-law, Jean (Mrs. Kevin) Hughes.
