William D. Bates married (1) Katie Broocks on December 31, 1893 in Burnet County, Texas; (2) Frances Warren on December 4, 1909 in Harris County, Texas. Additional information from Judith Fouts Patrick : William David Bates had a third child by his second wife, Frances Folsom Warren. The child is my mother, Frances Folsom Bates, born 21 Nov 1913, died 5 Apr 1997. ***************************** Obit from Morse Undertaking Company in Houston: William D. Bates, 63, died at his home, 511 Drew, at 12:30 a.m. Friday. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Warren D. and William D. Bates, Jr.; four daughters, Misses Kate Harding Bates, Frances Bates, Betty Ann Bates and Mrs Clara Elizabeth Nesbit, all of Houston; four brothers, J.R. Bates of San Antonio, B.B. Bates of Dallas, M.M. Bates of Wichita Falls and C.F. Bates of Corpus Christi. He had been a resident of Houston for 28 years, having moved here with the opening of the Texas Company offices here. He served for many years as the head of the land department of the company. He was a member of the Houston Bar Association. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 4 p.m. Saturday, Rev. T.N. Carruthers officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery under the direction of Morse Funeral chapel. Active pallbearers will be F.D. Russell, M. Hutchinson, E.R. Ramsey, Thomas H.
