Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, February 27, 1956, pg 4, col 3: Lutilla Morse, of 196 East 11th Street, died in the Resthaven Nursing Home here Saturday. She had been a patient there for about nine months. Mrs. Morse was born Nov. 5, 1866 to Height [note name variation in the bio information following] and Elizabeth Hall in Macon City, Mo. Following her education she taught school in Missouri. She came to Chico in 1914 and two years later moved to Nevada, where she lived for a short time, then returned to California and lived in Sacramento until 1949, when she returned to Chico. Her first husband, Dr. Hiram Lee Griffin, who was a physician in Arkansas, died in 1898. In 1948 she married Charles Morse in Reno, Nev. Mrs. Morse is survived by the following children: Mrs. Myrtle Ferrua of Paradise; Ben Griffin of Chico, and Mrs. Erma Easter of Grants Pass, Ore. Three children preceded her in death. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Chico Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by the Case Funeral Chapel. ~~~ Lutilla (Liew, Lou) Hall was the daughter of Jesse Hyatt Hall and Louise Elizabeth "Lizzie" Buster. She was born November 5, 1866 in Springfield, Macon, Missouri. She was married first to Dr. Hiram Griffin (1866-1898) on April 7, 1889. They were parents of: Myrtle Lucinda (1890-1970 - who m. 1st. Wm Bailey, 2nd Emile Dahl, 3rd Ettore Ferrus); Bently Blankenship Griffin (1892-1961 - m. Mattie Wallace); Clarence Uleda Griffin (1895-1947 - m. Eva Miller); and Hessie Lee Griffin (1897-1932 - m. Frieda Marie Franzen). After the death of Dr. Griffin, Lutilla was married second to James H. Worley on June 5, 1900. She was married third to Thomas Treadwell on July 17, 1901. They were parents of Irma Cleone Treadwell (1903-1997 - m. 1st Gillie Roy Griffin 1895-1948, and m. 2nd to Fred Easter 1904-1979). Lutilla was married fourth to a Mr. Kent. NOTE: Her sons' military records bear her name as Mrs. Liew Kent during the period of 1915-1919. She lived in Sacramento, and Reno, Nevada. She was married fifth to James Taylor on December 30, 1921 in Alameda, California. She was married sixth to Charles Richard Morse in 1948 in Reno, Nevada and they were married until his death. Lutilla was employed as a school teacher and was careful to record her son's military history for the California World War I, Service Cards and Photos. A record of their service in their mother's handwriting is online along with photos of the men in their WWI Uniforms. She died February 25, 1956 in Resthaven Nursing Home, Chico. Note: Daughter Irma Cleone Treadwell married Gillie Griffin a nephew of her mother's first husband.
