Bio

Jerome John Carkoski, 84, of Loup City died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Jerome was born October 29, 1926 at Ord, NE to Michael and Anna (Badura) Carkoski. Jerome grew up and attended school in the Loup City and Arcadia area. He served in the Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952 and then the Army Reserve until 1957. On October 26, 1963 he married Mary Knebel at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, NE. They farmed north of Loup City and moved to town in 1994. He continued to farm until the early 1980's and then worked on the Calamus Dam construction and Petersen Lumber Yard until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, polka music on Sunday and playing checkers with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. Jerome is survived by his wife, Mary of Loup City, NE; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Carkoski of Loup City, Philip and Missy Carkosski of Loup City and Gerald and Sue Carkoski of Grand Island, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Bill Stobbe of Grand Island, NE, Virginia and Troy Hobbs of Grand Island, NE and Linda and Tim Pawloski of Farwell, NE; grandchildren and spouses; Erica and John Taylor, Nicole and Michael Scheer, Andrea Carkoski, Taylor Carkoski, Carsten Carkoski, Chloe Carkoski, Tosheena Hobbs, Breanna Hobbs, Derek Pawloski, Jenna Pawloski, Garett Pawloski, Kaylee Carkoski and Nathan Carkoski; great grandchildren; Bill and Jack Taylor and Bren and Afton Scheer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Ann and Robert Pape of Grand Island, NE and Anna Mae and Jim Cochnar of Grand Island, NE. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Theresa Carkoski. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Published in the Kearney Hub on 1/19/2011
