wife of John T Simpson OBITUARY- Mrs. Martha Priscilla Williamson Simpson was born in Alabama, March 17, 1854. She moved with her parents, while still a child, to Yalobusha County, MS and resided there for a number of years, later moving to Calhoun County, living in the northwestern part of same until the date of her death, Oct. 24, 1938.She joined the Missionary Baptist Church at Pilgrim's Rest in Yalobusha County in her youth, later transferring her membership to Concord, where she was a faithful, loyal member the remainder of her days. The deceased was wedded to J. T. Simpson, a Civil War Veteran, in 1877. To this union eleven children were born. Death claimed her companion, after a long illness, in 1897, so she assumed fatherly duties, to her already overburdened shoulders, to her fatherless children. How well she performed this major task is well known to those who have so long been associated with her and her fine sons and daughters, who grew to noble manhood and womanhood beneath her roof, seven of whom survive her. She also left twenty-five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.The many hardships and privations of Civil War and reconstruction days fell to her lot. Her early married life and part of her widowhood was lived under pioneer conditions in this section. A strong Christian character, moral courage, thrift and untiring devotion to family and friends upheld her and she lived to a ripe old age, a life which was worthy of emulation."Upon the walls of memory, One face, one form I ever see, Above all friends she seems to me, My friend, My dear Mrs. Simpson, Oh, how it makes my heart rejoice, When I recall that living voice, The mem'ries of her that come to me."
