Bio
Services for Sally McClure Basey, 95, of Lufkin were held Wednesday, March 6, in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Ms. Basey was born April 21, 1906 in the Ora Community of Angelina County to the late Jesse Hosea and Lola (Sowell) McClure and died Sunday, March 3 at her home. She resided in Lufkin for more than 60 years and formerly resided in Huntington, Ora and Deweyville. Ms. Basey taught school at Smyrna and was a retired sales clerk for over 40 years, having been employed with several department stores. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Maxine Basey of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Harry St. Clair of Freeport and Sherri and David Dunn of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Dolores Knox, Sally Ann Swearingen, Chuck St. Clair, Lance St. Clair, Kyle Dunn and Tyson Dunn; nine great-grandchildren, Dean Knox, Craig Knox, Basey Swearingen, Dovie Swearingen; Mitchell St. Clair, Christian St. Clair, Joshua Dunn, Jacob Dunn and Emily Dunn; four great-great-grandchildren, L.D. Knox, Taylor Knox, Jerry Knox and Kaylie Knox; brother-in-law, Guy Basey of Huntington; stepmother-in-law, Lizzie Basey of Huntington. Ms. Basey was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Carl Basey Sr.; sisters, Florence Ivy, Edna Cook, Nora Cox; twin sister, Callie Shofner; sister, Naomi Walker and brothers, Bunyan McClure and I.D. McClure. Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
