Bio

James Seay Cawthon, Sr. passed from this life on January 1, 2011 at Charlton Methodist Hospital in DeSoto, Texas. He was surrounded by his family and secure in the arms of Wilma, his beloved wife of 64 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Judge Wilma Cawthon of Cedar Hill, his daughter Deborah and son-in-law Jon Vinson of San Angelo, daughter Janet and son-in-law Steve Madison of Duncanville and son Judge Jim Cawthon, Jr. and daughter-in-law Deborah of Boise Idaho as well as five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Jim was born in Dallas on October 11, 1922 and spent his early life in service to the cause of Liberty as a Radar Operator for the United States Navy, attached to the Third Marine Defense Battalion on the Pacific island of Espritu Santo and afterward on the USS Bataan during her operations in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Jim returned to Dallas in the employ of the Lorch Company, the oldest and largest privately owned women's apparel company in the United States. Through the years, Jim rose to the rank of Vice President of Operations and retired in 1988 after 35 years of service. Jim was a man who lived his faith and he served the Lord with joy as an Elder of the Duncanville Church of Christ with decades of service as a song leader and Sunday school teacher. As a final act of service, Jim and Wilma have willed his body to UT Southwestern Medical Center for use in medical research and his ashes will be interred with honor at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in the spring. Jim will be remembered in the community as a stalwart Churchman, family man and patriot who loved his wife, his children, his Lord and the United States of America. Godspeed Jim. We will miss you sorely. Published Dallas Morning News
