John Wesley was the son of Benjamin B. and Levicy Jane "Jincy" (Medaris) Howard. He married Malinda Sallee, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Sipple) Sallee. Malinda is buried in an unmarked grave. The couple were the parents of the following children: John Henry, Mary Elizabeth (#39353748), Thomas S., Benjamin Franklin and Bertha Beatrice Howard. John Wesley was a Civil War veteran serving as a Confederate soldier, Co. K of the 9th Missouri Infantry. He enlisted on 1 Nov 1862 in Horse Head Station, Arkansas and was paroled on 7 June 1865 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Surrender was at New Orleans, Louisiana on 26 May 1865. He traveled home with a Mr. Fox, also from Keytesville. Enroute home, the men slept up in trees at night to avoid detection. Upon his death, John Wesley was living with daughter Lizzie Wright at her home near the Keytesville City Cemetery.
