Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 29, 2002 Merle L. Ford Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in North Amarillo Church of Christ with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ, and Dalton Key, minister of North Amarillo Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Ford was born on Oct. 19, 1916, in Ross, Okla., to Lemuel and Florence Potter Ford. He graduated from Concord High School in Concord, Okla. He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of WWII, having served in England and France during Normandy. He married Una Howard in Wheeler on Dec. 25, 1941. He was a welder and a craftsman at his trade. He was a member of the West Texas Sams Chapter and a member of the North Amarillo Church of Christ for 56 years. He loved the outdoors and was a devoted husband and father. He was a devout Christian for more than 60 years. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Ford, in 1990, one sister, Dessie Geren in 1997, and one great-grandson, Colton Johnston-Weathers in 1995. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lonnie Ford of LaSalle, Colo., Gary Ford of Mangum, Okla., and Ken Ford of Amarillo; a daughter, Carol Weathers of Amarillo; two brothers, Lemuel Ford of Lincoln, Neb., and Bill Ford of Canyon; one sister, Darlene Brumley of Amarillo; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
