Bio

Venita Olive Ball Langston, a long-time resident of Crosby, went to be with our Lord on January 4, 2011. She was born in Montgomery County, Texas October 28, 1919 to Myrtle and Rexford Ball who preceded her in death, as did her brothers, Earle Ball of Wichita Falls, Texas and RL Ball of Phoenix, Arizona, and husband LG (Jack) Langston of Crosby. She is survived by her son, Denny Cook also of Crosby, daughter and son-in-law Nita and Larry Brown of Mobile, Alabama, grandson and wife Matt and Tammy Thomas and great granddaughters Mary Elizabeth Thomas and Alexandra Thomas of Humble, Texas, grandson and wife David and Sherri Thomas of Mobile, granddaughter Hannah Thomas of Crosby, brother Curt Ball and his wife, Marty, of Baytown and numerous relatives and friends across the US and the UK. Venita was a former resident of Barbers Hill, where she attended the Barbers Hill Schools, a long-time member of the Indian Shores Garden Club and an excellent cook who enjoyed nothing better than working in her garden, singing to her plants, and picking all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Venita had a passion for deer hunting and proudly displayed the buck trophies she'd garnered. Venita never met a stranger, and she was always there to lend a helping hand. She was a long-time supporter of Paralyzed Veterans, Father Flannigan's Boys' and Girls' Town, the Disabled Veterans and the Salvation Army. She was a painter, but never exhibited, preferring to give her friends and family members her paintings. She never sought glory for herself, but encouraged others to let their light shine. She was still spry at 91 and able to lie on her back and lift her leg to her head. She was a beloved sister, mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother whose love, bubbly friendship and joy of life will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Navarre Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Cedarcrest Cemetery with Rev. Steve Self officiating. Flowers are acceptable, but in lieu of flowers, donations given in her name to one of the charities listed above would also be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, Texas 77521, (281) 422-8111.
