Funeral services for R. E. Whittington of Columbia Heights, who died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Death evidently was from a heart attack. He was 71. Services were held in the chapel of the Riser and Son Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Melvin Robinson in charge. Interment was made in the Welcome Home Cemetery, near Grayson. Surviving him are a son, Warren E. Whittington, of Orlando, Fla.; 3 brothers: Joe [ sic Sam] Whittington of Palestine, Texas, and Hugh and Joe of Franklin, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Brown[ing] of Franklin, Texas, and a granddaughter, Opel Estelle Whittington of Orlando, Fla.
