Verna Beatrice Sones Richey passed away peacefully Sunday, December 30 on her 93rd birthday. Verna was born in the Parish of Catahoula, Louisiana to Henry Jackson and Roxie Jane Sones in 1914. She lovingly cared for husband, John W. Richey, Sr. and her mother for many years. While caring for them, she volunteered many hours to assist others at St. Anthony's Rehabilitation Center. Following their deaths, Verna volunteered at Heights Tower in Houston with her dear friends in planning events and parties for all residents. Verna will be missed for her beautiful smile and loving nature towards all whose path she crossed. She was preceded in death by husband, John, her parents, her brothers, H.J. Sones and Charles Sones, her sister Leona Overstreet and her grandchildren Kathy and David Bryan. She is survived by daughters Shirley Bryan and Jeanne O'Meara of Houston and sons-in-law, Kenneth Bryan and Edward O'Meara, and also her son John W. Richey, Jr. and wife Tina, and her grandchildren Alyssa, Tom and wife Holly and Travis and wife Laurel, all of British Columbia, Canada. The family wishes to thank the many friends who looked out for Verna in her last years at Heights Tower. We also wish to recognize her best friend, Helen Harbridge, who joined Verna and others from the Towers at St. Dominic Village Nursing Home to continue their long friendships. The family sincerely appreciates the administrative and nursing staff at St. Dominic for their kind and gentle care of Verna. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the St. Dominic Village Nursing Home, 2401 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77021 would be appreciated by the family. Visitation will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at the funeral home from 7pm to 9pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
