Mary Rose Girard, 83, of Osceola, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at the Osceola Good Samaritan Society. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola, with Father James Cooper officiating. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 6:30 rosary to follow. Mary Rose was born March 22, 1927, to Lewis and Rose (Gabel) Schott in Osceola. She attended Dist. 63 country school northeast of Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School in 1943. She then attended Lincoln School of Commerce and received her secretarial degree. On Feb. 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to Hubert P. Girard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. To this union five children were born. The family lived on a farm northeast of Osceola, where Mary Rose was a dedicated homemaker and farm wife. They resided there until moving into Osceola in the fall of 1980. On Oct. 26, 2009, Hubert and Mary Rose moved to the Osceola Good Samaritan Society, where she resided until her passing. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby, and later St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola, St. Anne's Guild, St. Vincent's (Altar Society), Osceola Legion Auxiliary, and Friendly Neighbors Club. Mary Rose enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, baking, playing cards, and her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Hubert, of Osceola; daughters, Janet (Rick) Ekstrom, of Omaha, and Connie Alexander, of Osceola; two sons, Ron (Deb) and John (Deb), all of Osceola; son-in-law, Dennis Hiemer, of Richland; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis Schott, of Osceola, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Rose Schott; one daughter, Carolyn Hiemer; and one sister, Ramona Augustin. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
