Bio

Thomas Jones was born at Fermoy, Cork County, Ireland, Dec 25, 1849, and moved to America with his parents when eight years of age, settling in Logan County, Illinois, where he grew up, moving in early manhood to McClean County, near Bloomington. He was married to Margaret Mulgrue on December 14, 1872, in McClean County, IL. This union was blessed with seven children, all of whom are alive and were present at the funeral. They are John, Ed, Tom, Joe and May, of this place, Will, of David City, and Mrs. J. E. Kirby, of Crawford, Nebraska. Thomas Jones was a pioneer in Nebraska. He moved to Butler Co. locating near David City, where he resided until two years ago, when he came to Furnas county and purchased the fine farm known as the Wilkinson school section, two miles southeast of Cambridge, where he was living at the time of his death, which occurred Wednesday, October 19, 1910, at 8 pm. Mr. Jones was an honorable citizen, a kind father and loving husband - always willing to sacrifice himself for his family. Deceased was a Roman Catholic and a sincere Christian, who never failed in his religious duty, always a firm believer in the future eternal life. The funeral was held at St. John's Church in this city Saturday at 10 a. m., conducted by Rev. Father Kelley and burial in the Catholic cemetery west of town. The floral offerings consisted of roses, carnations, and ferns and were profuse and very beautiful, some of which were sent by friends. The deceased will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived as he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. His is the first empty chair in the family circle and sorrow hovers over the household. To his devoted wife the shock seems almost unbearable - after thirty-eight years of happy wedded life. It seems almost impossible for her to give him up.
