Thomas Zimeriah Leggitt was most likely born near present day Monongalia, West Virginia. (It was still Virginia until the start of the Civil War.) He was the son of James Leggitt and Catherine Floyd. He grew up in Crawford County, Illinois, where he met and married Rachael Metcalf. They were married in Crawford County, Illinois on November 26, 1859. They had 8 known children. John William Leggitt (1860-1917) married Cora Cutler Arminta Leggitt (1862-1952) married JT Ledbetter Ulysses Sherman Leggitt (1864-1940) married Clara Smith Emma Dora Leggitt (1868-1939) married JT Rodgers Charles B Leggitt (abt 1870- abt 1910) married Lulu Lafevers Thomas H Leggitt (1875-1955) married Edna Pearl Hood Lenora Leggitt (1878-1934) married Frank Liles Thomas and Rachael moved to Jasper County, Missouri in the early 1880's.
