"Kelso Ballard, of Dayton, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at a local nursing home. He was 94. Mr. Ballard was the former sheriff of Rhea County from 1940 to 1946, a trustee from 1947 to 1948, a Dayton City Councilman from 1959 to 1969, a farmer, a contractor and a car dealer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Ballard. Survivors include his sister, Cloe Burdette of Dayton; foster-daughter, Pauline Maynor of Dayton; foster-grandsons, Paul and Mike Maynor; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 23, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald and Rev. Milton Knox officiating. Burial was in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements." Source: Rhea Herald News, 20 Oct 1999
