About 1835, my ggg grandfather George G. Durham, sold his land in York County, SC and moved his family to Fayette County, TN. He appears on the Fayette County tax list in 1836 with 150 acres of land and 9 slaves. In 1838, he purchased 202 acres of land in Range 5, Civil District 8 near Oakland, TN from Henry Andrews for $3000. In 1844, his estate consisted of Bluff Creek Plantation, consisting of 404 Acres, 19 slaves, 75 head of hogs, 35 head of cattle, 9 horses, wagons, corn, fodder, oats, furniture, ploughs and farming equipment. In 1856, he was declared incompetent and the court distributed his estate to his heirs. He died at the home of his daughter, Margaret G. Durham Manley, in Nashville, TN and was buried at an unknown location.
