Bio

Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Jackson "Jack" and Samantha "Amaretta" Bratton McElhenney. She was living with her family in York, South Carolina in the 1850 census. Thomas McElhenney was issued a land patent in Hurricane Township for 80 acres in July, 1857; thus, he and his family, along with his brother James, had settled in the area currently known as Rye in 1852. Sarah married James Richardson Reynolds from Drew County in Bradley County in September, 1855. They had two children : John Harleston Reynolds (1856) and Eliza J Reynolds (1859). James died around 1859-1860. Sarah and her children are listed on the 1860 census as members of her parents household. Sarah married Benjamin Davis in Drew County in December, 1865. Sarah and Benjamin had four children : Edward Montgomery (1867), John Jackson (1969), Etta (1871) and Trphyhosia Elizabeth (1877). Sarah died in January, 1980 from Cerebrospinal Fever in Hurricane Township, Dorsey County, Arkansas. She was buried in Union Cemetery beside her grandfather, John McElhenney.
