The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal: Sam Dye Service will be held today at Tupelo Tupelo, Miss., July 13 - Services for Sam Dye, retired farmer and blacksmith who died Wednesday morning in the North Mississippi Community Hospital here after a short illness, will be held at 3 Thursday afternoon at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home with the Rev. Garland Knott and the Rev. Leo Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery at Verona. Mr. Dye was a lifelong resident of Lee County and had lived 33 years as a resident of Verona. While living there, he served a number of terms as Alderman. He was a member of the Verona Methodist Church. He was 83. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Hodges Dye; four daughters, Mrs. L.D. Hale of West Point, Mrs. Gerald Long of Detroit, Mrs. Clifford West of Verona; two sons, Eddie Dye of Memphis and Sammy Dye of Verona; four sisters, Mrs. Preston Cardwell of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Will Godfrey of the Brewer community, Mrs. C.H. Lawhon of Shannon, Mrs. Clyde Bickerstaff of Tupelo; four brothers, Will Dye of Verona, Tom Dye of Dallas, Texas, Henry Dye of Tupelo, and Shelby Dye of the Brewer community; 13 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
