Dr. Ira Nell Turman (1929-2010) Funeral services for Dr. Ira Nell Turman, 81, of Austin, formerly of Fannin County, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Johnny Glover will officiate. Burial will follow in Gober Cemetery. Ira Nell passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at Smith Nursing Home in Wolfe City. Ira Nell was born Jan. 1, 1929 in Gober, the daughter of Ira Lee Wigley and Myrtle Lee Lacy Wigley. She was a graduate of Gober High School and received her master's degree from East Texas State University. She also received a doctorate of education administration and linguistics from the University of Texas in Austin. Ira Nell taught English in Wolfe City, Richardson and Austin, Perryville, Md., and McLean, Va. From 1971 -1993, she worked with the Texas Education Agency in Austin where she retired as a Senior Director of Text Book Administration. She was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. She moved back to the North Texas area in 2001. Ira Nell was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her only child, James Arthur "Art" Turman Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Gober; two granddaughters, Amanda Turman Pippin of Dallas and Jennifer Turman of Gober; a great-granddaughter, KatieAnne Pippin of Allen. Pallbearers will be Johnny Babers, Dell Babers, Ed Breach, Dale Davis and Jeff Wallace. The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday.
