Daughter of J. W. Amick
Died, on Saturday morning, March 3 of inflammation of the bowels, Grace Amick, only daughter of of J. W. and Laura Amick, aged about 15 years. Grace Amick was born in Weeping Water, Nebraska, March 19, 18856, and died in Stockton March 3, 1900. Grace was attending the Stockton Normal School, and the teachers and scholars found her to be an enthusiastic, energetic pupil and classmate. She was of a bright, joyous temperament and was often the center of a group of classmates. Her classmates acted as pallbearers and as a class followed her remains to the cemetery. She was converted and united with the Christian church in June, 1899. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Shipley, assisted by Rev. Valette and Prof. Clark. So fades the lovely blooming flower, Frail, smiling solace of an hour; So soon our transient comforts fly, And pleasure only blooms to die. Is there no kind, no lenient art To heal the anguish of the heart? Spirit of Grace I be ever nigh, Thy comforts are not made to die. The gentle patience smiles on pain, And dying hope revives again. Hope wipes the tear from sorrow's eye, And faith points upward to the sky. The Stockton Review and Rooks County Record, Friday, March 9, 1900, Page 8
