Bio
Helen Elizabeth West, 85, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her home in Kurten surrounded by her family. Funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with the Rev. Fred Eister officiating. Interment will follow at Kurten Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the funeral home. Helen was born May 21, 1922 in Kurten to Antone and Anna Stevener. She was a member of Zion Church of Kurten and the Women's Guild. She was an adult leader of the 4-H Club and member of the Kurten School Mother's Club. She loved playing cards with her friends on Wednesdays. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Hawley West of Kurten; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Gail West of Boerne, Larry and Janie West of Kurten; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Leon Whitehead of Kurten; brother and sister-in-law, Antone and Irene Stevener of Bryan; grandchildren, Sherry Vireck and husband, Eric, Kenneth West Jr. and wife, Catherine, Kelly Gilmore and husband, Brett, Leisha Alexander and husband, Phillip, Larry West Jr. and wife, Traci, and Holly Wolfe and husband, Wes; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Shelby Vireck, Ethan and Allison West, Corbyn and Skyler Gilmore, Beau and Grace Alexander and Tatum and Walker West; and special friend and caregiver, Helena Wallace. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion Church of Kurten Expansion Fund or to a charity of choice.
