Bio

Doris Marie Psota, 81, of Ord died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord. Doris was born Feb. 24, 1929, at Red Cloud to Randal O. and Ethel M. (Slaby) White. Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Marshall and second husband, J. Eugene Psota. Survivors are: daughter, Janice K. Sliva of Lincoln; brothers, Allen White of Ord, Eugene White of Grand Island and Larry White of North Loup; two sisters, Thelma Zabloudil and Phyllis Rockefeller, both of Lincoln; grandsons, James Sliva of Burwell and Jerry Sliva of Norfolk; three great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Doris attended Parnell District 22 rural school south of Scotia and graduated from Scotia Consolidated High School in 1946. On Aug. 22, 1949, Doris was united in marriage to Elmer J. Marshall at Grand Island. For three years she taught rural school then helped her husband, Elmer operate their Plumbing and Refuse business for 15 years. Mr. Marshall passed away on Oct. 23, 1974. Doris married J. Eugene Psota on April 14, 1979, at Ord. From 1975-1994 Doris worked at Mel's Store and then worked as a baker at the L Street Mini Mart for two years. Mr. Psota passed away in 1997. Doris continued to make her home in Ord. Doris was baptized into the Christian Church on Jan. 6, 1957 and was a member of the Ord Christian Church. She was a Girl Scout leader for 5 years. She greatly enjoyed working with children and was a strong believer in education. Her hobbies included baking, canning, vegetable and flower gardening, reading and quiz programs. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmer Marshall and J. Eugene Psota and sister, Donna O'Donnell. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 12/8/2010
