Bio

Ship records indicate they were coming from Russia and immigrated from Bremen, Germany aboard the ship S S BRANDENBURG arriving in Baltimore, Md on June 4, 1903. The had 5 children aboard the ship coming with them : Franz, Marie, Josef, Berta, and Emilie. After a harsh trip over the ocean, then a train ride to Petersburg, Va and a wagon ride to her sisters home, the Vasatko Family, the family was cramped and many slept on the floors. Tragic soon struck as Marie developed pneumonia and only 6 months after arriving in America, she died since there was no treatment at that time. She left 5 young children and her husband, Jan. She was first buried in Begonia congregational Church Cemetery, but later moved to this cemetery a laid beside her husband.
