Bio

William "Bill" E. Prorok, son of Charles and Agnes (Kush) Prorok was born on Jan. 10, 1929, on a farm near Tarnov. He attended country school through the 8th grade. As a young boy, Bill helped on the farm northeast of St. Edward. He worked for Behlen's in Columbus for many years and later Lightner Lumber in St. Edward. On March 10, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Marge Dickenson at the St. Edward Catholic Church. To this union six children were born. Bill did carpenter work throughout St. Edward as well as worked for the City of St. Edward in his later years. In addition to being a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, he was a member of St. Edward Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Bill loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved polkas, fishing, hunting and watching baseball and football especially the Huskers. Bill passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at the Columbus Community Hospital at the age of 81. Bill is survived by six children: Jody Prorok (Tom Eller), Columbus; Paula Lloyd (James), Columbus; Daniel Prorok (Paul Helms) Salt Lake City, Utah; Todd Prorok, Columbus; Charles Prorok, St. Edward; Jason Prorok (Sarah Nelson), Humphrey; one sister Virginia Schumacher (Bill), St. Edward; sister-in-law Cleo Prorok, St. Edward; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers Ray, Ralph, Eddie, Virgil and Rudy; and one sister Margaret Micek. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward with Mgsr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating and burial in the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5- 7 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitation will resume Tuesday at the Church from 9 a.m. until service time. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward is in charge of arrangements.
