Frances Slominski, 82, of College Station, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in College Station. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hillier Funeral Home. Published in The Bryan-College Station Eagle on December 2, 2010 -------------------------- June 18, 1928 – December 1, 2010 Frances Slominski, 82, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, surrounded by her beloved family while receiving care at her daughter's home in College Station. Services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, with a Rosary followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Frances was born to John and Fannie (Sefcik) Surovik in New Tabor Community in Burleson County. She graduated from Caldwell High in 1945 and completed Durham Business School in 1946. Frances married Joseph Slominski in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, on June 21, 1953. They were married 36 years and together they raised three, wonderfully gifted children. Her love of children eventually led her to babysitting children in her home. Many of the families that she sat for continued to hold a special place in her life. One of them is the Bengs family who now reside in Arkansas, whom she always referred to as her "second" family. She truly devoted herself to her two grandchildren Taylor and Angeles and made it a point to attend their sporting events and dance performances. Frances was an avid football and baseball fan of the Texas A&M Aggies and Houston Astros. She enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Frances was fascinated with the work of the FBI and had a lifelong dream to be a detective. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joseph Slominski; her parents; and two brothers, Walter and Milton. Survivors include her son, Vince and his wife, Ivanka Slominski; her daughters, Jackie and her husband, Larry Keller, Carolyn and her husband, Robert Abt; grandchildren, Taylor Abt and Angeles Keller; and her second family, Dietrich and Kristi Bengs and their children, Eric, Karl, Keri and Walter. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or Brazos Valley Hospice.
