* s/o Ed Capps & Bertha Calhoun MART DAILY HERALD JANUARY 03, 1950 JOINT FUNERAL AT GROESBECK FOR 4 VICTIMS OF WACO CRASH Waco, Jan. 3--- Joint funeral services for four victims of a car-train crash six miles north of Waco early Sunday morning will be held at the gravesides in Old Union cemetery near Groesbeck at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The dead include: Leonard Doyle Capps, 19 and Mrs. Capps, 18, of Waco Rt. 4; Leonard Wayne Capps, 9-month old son of the couple; and Nathan Earl Yarbrough, 28, also of Rt. 4. Mrs. Yarbrough was critically injured in the crash, and Hillcrest hospital attendants said Monday night her condition was unchanged. The Capps and Mr. Yarbrough died when their car was struck by a southbound Katy passenger train at the fog-shrouded Gas House Lane crossing. The car was virtually demolished and fragments of it scattered for yards along the right-of-way. Only one body was found in the wreckage of the car. The others were scattered for yards along the tracks. Yarbrough and Capps died instantly. Mrs. Capps and her infant son were rushed to a hospital, but were pronounced dead on arrival. Surviving Mrs. Leonard Capps are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Grissot, two sisters and three brothers, all of Thornton. Mr. Capps is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Capps of Ben Hur; two brothers, Ed Jr., and James Earl, both of Ben Hur; six sisters, Mrs. J.C. Bullock of West, Miss Mary Lou Capps of Ben Hur, Mrs. Merle Yarbrough of Waco, Mrs. Eddie Grissett of Thornton, Miss Doris Fay Capps of Ben Hur and Miss Reba Capps of Ben Hur. Mr. Yarbrough is survived by his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Yarbrough and one brother, W.R. Yarbrough, all of Groesbeck.
